Whether your child is being evaluated for special education for the first time or already has an IEP and is approaching a triennial reevaluation, understanding what the team is actually deciding can make it much easier to participate meaningfully in the process.
In this workshop, we break down what evaluations are designed to tell us, how initial and continued eligibility decisions are made, why a triennial reevaluation doesn’t necessarily mean repeating every test, and the questions parents can ask when they’re not sure the team has enough information.
Because eligibility is more than determining whether your child qualifies for an IEP.

You Don’t Have to Become an Evaluator to Participate Meaningfully.
Evaluation reports can be overwhelming.
There are scores, percentiles, testing terminology, eligibility categories, recommendations—and then, sometimes in the same meeting, you’re being asked to participate in an important decision about whether your child qualifies or continues to qualify for special education.
You don’t need to understand every assessment tool or memorize IDEA.
But you can ask:
What did we learn about my child?
What needs did the evaluation identify?
Does the information we have actually answer our questions?
Is there anything we still need to understand?
And what does all of this mean for my child educationally?
